SPAYS
WHAT IS IT?
Spaying (ovariohysterectomy) is defined as sterilisation of a female and involves the removal of her uterus and ovaries.
PROS
Advantages to having your animal spayed:
- Reduces her chances of developing breast cancer, uterine cancer and ovarian cancer.
- Lessons the likelihood of her developing uterine infections (pyometra).
- You as the owner won’t have to deal with unwanted litters. In order to prevent overpopulation, tragically thousands of animals are put to sleep every year due to accidental breeding.
- A spayed female will stop attracting unwanted males, and decrease her desire to roam.

NEUTERS

- Neutering is very effective in altering sexually dimorphic behaviour in males. This would include urine spraying and mounting.
- Males neutered early on in life are less aggressive and distracted by females in heat.
- Male dogs that are neutered are preserved from conditions like testicular neoplasia as well as prostatitis caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia.
